One of the key tenets of Beta Theta Pi is our commitment to community. Not only do we need air, food, water, clothing and shelter; we also need companionship and mental stimulation. At Beta, our responsibility to the community extends beyond philanthropy (while still important), calling for Betas to give our time and talents to our Johns Hopkins community.
Freshman Day of Service: During orientation, Beta Theta Pi helps the Johns Hopkins Center for Social Concern organize the Freshman Day of Service, bringing new students out into Baltimore to help them learn about and help the city where we go to school. Being a Johns Hopkins student means more than just burying your head in your books. Freshman should take this opportunity to learn about and help your new Baltimore community. A free lunch is provided, and participants should be sure to remember to dress comfortably and wear closed-toed shoes as you might be getting a little dirty.
Boy Scouts of America: Twice a year, we make our way to a local Boy Scout camp and volunteer our time, assisting wherever necessary. Whether helping maintain the facilities or tearing down old structures, we always lend a helping hand wherever we can. |
